Rachel Mackay is a multidisciplinary artist based in Sydney/Eora working across sculpture, painting, video and installation. Her practice explores embodied female experience through ideas of permeability, fragmentation and transformation, understanding bodies and identities as shaped through cumulative socio-cultural histories rather than fixed or singular states. Mackay completed a Master of Fine Art at the National Art School in 2024. She has been a finalist in the Mosman Art Prize (2022, 2024, 2025), the Fishers Ghost Prize (2025), the Environmental Art & Design Prize, MAG&M (2025), the Wollongong Art Prize (2025), the Lane Cove Art Award (2025) and the Wyndham Art Prize (2026). Mackay is a 2026 artist in residence at Woollahra Gallery in Sydney.

During her residency at Woollahra Gallery, Mackay will undertake research and making as a continuation of her practice. The residency will function as an open, generative period focused on drawing, gathering and material experimentation. She will use this time to test new material relationships, expand connections between sculpture, painting, moving image and installation, and explore how these disciplines can converge into more spatial, immersive works. This will culminate in the development of a new body of work for her exhibition following the residency in July, extending and deepening the conceptual and material trajectories of her practice.
