About the Program:
This workshop introduces young and aspiring filmmakers to the key processes and realities of the film industry. Facilitators will provide an overview of each stage of filmmaking, from pre-production and production to post-production and distribution. The session aims to broaden participants’ understanding of the creative and practical considerations involved when working with film as a medium.

Recommended ages 16–21.
Limited spots, RSVP essential.


Facilitators:

The workshop will be facilitated by Berni Jiang, Johnathan Lo and Yanti Peng.

Berni Jiang (she/her) is a Chinese-Australian screenwriter and director based between Gadigal Land, Sydney Australia and Boorloo, Perth Australia. Quietly shaped by nature and Chinese philosophies in her upbringing, she has a minimalistic yet sensory approach to weaving narratives. Her short films “To Fly a Kite” 《风筝悟》2023 (SFF, SHISW Winner, Cinefest Oz) and “Mango Seed” 《芒果芯》2025 (Clermont ISFF, SFF, MIFF, BISFF, Flickerfest) have screened in International and Australian film festivals. Berni has amassed insightful experiences working with art and cultural figures such as Nowness Asia, Phoenix Central Park and Community Arts Network. Currently working at PUSH as a director and editor, her commercial collaborators include ASICS, Champion, Lululemon, Bonds.

Johnathan Lo is a writer, director, and educator with experience across screen production and teaching. He has been commissioned by the ABC and his work has been recognised at major festivals, including the Sydney Film Festival and SXSW Sydney, with projects such as Yao Yao Goes To Little Bay and Bong Xi Fa Cai. He has received development funding through Digital Originals in 2025 and continues to develop longer-form projects while tutoring in Media and Communications at the University of Sydney.

Yanti Peng, 彭妍缇 is a Hainan-born interdisciplinary artist working across sculpture, photography, and 3D computer tools. Her exhibition history includes Firstdraft (Eora), Blindside Gallery (Naarm), Cement Fondu (Eora/Online) and 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art (Eora). She was a finalist in the Kudos Award (2022) and the Burwood Art Prize (2023), and has been commissioned by institutions including UNSW, Parramatta Artist Studios, Inner West Council and PHIVE. She worked on film projects that have appeared at the Sydney Film Festival and on ABC. She is currently a board member and Digital Producer at Runway Journal.
